The Olympic Trials

Well the Olympic trials are over for a lot of countries including Jamaica and the United States. There were a few surprises at the US trials as some big name athletes fell by the wayside. We didn't have too many casualties in our trials. In the US trials you have to finish in the top three to get an individual berth. It will be an interesting clash between the USA and Jamaica. If our athletes retain their fitness then we should top the athletics medal table.

BUBBLE'S BABY-An Excerpt

Bubbles’ Baby by Austin Mitchell As I drove into Creighton on my way to Latore’s Ridge a young lady waved me down. When I stopped the car and she came up to it, I recognized her as ‘Bubbles’ Kenton, one of my former students. “Teacher, can I beg you a ride to Rennals?” “Sure, Bubbles, get in.” I opened the car door for her and she got in. She had a young baby with her, but I noticed that she didn’t have a bag, although the baby was wrapped in a towel. “Your first baby, Bubbles?” I asked as I drove off the car. “He’s Leta’s baby, teacher. I don’t have any children yet. She’s gone for an interview in Kingston so she begged me to keep him for her.” I used to teach both Bubbles and Leta at Mc Cauley High School in Oakley district. Jamaica Creative Writer's Conference

How about a creative writers conference? This would bring together some of Jamaica's best creative writers to share ideas. I'm putting it out there because as far as I know there is not a lot going for creative writers. Can anybody make a living out of creative writing in Jamaica?
