The Mother River by Austin Mitchell              Once, hundreds of years ago, there was a great river. It was called the Mother river. Some said that it was in the north of the island, others said that it was in the middle of the island, but others disagreed, saying that it was in the west. Although it was known as the Mother river, people called it the magic river, the golden river and many other names. One of the main villages the river passed through was reportedly called called   Dunklet. The people of Dunklet worshipped the river.   They depended for their very lives on this river. They bathed, swam and caught fishes in its waters. They often wondered at the size of the fishes they caught. They were so big and juicy. They used its waters to irrigate their fields. Term Limits

In the United States they have term limits, whereby the President cannot serve more than two consecutive four year terms. In Africa for example we have seen the constitution of several of these countries being changed to allow Presidents to serve additional terms in office. Sometimes the populace has objected and this has led to violence. The people of Bolivia recently rejected Evo Morales attempt to serve another term in office. I think there should be term limits for the Prime Minister. However I am not sure whether it should be two or three terms of five years each. A man could become Prime Minister at forty years, serve two five year terms and be out of office by age fifty. On the other hand an individual could serve as Prime Minister, be booted out of office in the next election, has to wait out the term of office of the party in government before getting back into office. I believe that an individual should only be allowed to serve two consecutive terms as Prime Minister. If ...

Willis’ Lucky Escape by Austin Mitchell Willis woke up with a headache. He knew that it was after midnight because he had heard the National Anthem being played on the radio in an adjoining room. The room was dark and his hands and feet were bound. As he lay in the darkness he recollected what had happened earlier in the day. He had been driving his taxi on Molynes Road in Kingston, after dropping off a female passenger in Queensberry when two men waved him down. The men wanted to go the Papine. His first instinct had been to drive on but he remembered that he hadn’t made Bydie’s money yet and this was Friday and the man would want his money first thing tomorrow morning.
