Sharpening up Your Reading and Comprehension Skills

My next book 'Sharpening up Your Reading and Comprehension Skills' will be aimed at Grade Five and Six students in primary schools in the Caribbean. I will be setting comprehension questions on six of my short stories. There will be ten questions on each story, sixty questions in all.  I will be giving the dictionary meanings of the difficult words encountered in the stories. At the back of the book I will list out these words again and give synonyms and antonyms for each word.The stories are: The Mother River, The Magic Marble, One Good Turn.......,The Forgiving, Examination Blues, False Papers and Children Traffickers. BUBBLE'S BABY-An Excerpt

Bubbles’ Baby by Austin Mitchell As I drove into Creighton on my way to Latore’s Ridge a young lady waved me down. When I stopped the car and she came up to it, I recognized her as ‘Bubbles’ Kenton, one of my former students. “Teacher, can I beg you a ride to Rennals?” “Sure, Bubbles, get in.” I opened the car door for her and she got in. She had a young baby with her, but I noticed that she didn’t have a bag, although the baby was wrapped in a towel. “Your first baby, Bubbles?” I asked as I drove off the car. “He’s Leta’s baby, teacher. Jamaica Creative Writer's Conference

How about a creative writers conference? This would bring together some of Jamaica's best creative writers to share ideas. I'm putting it out there because as far as I know there is not a lot going for creative writers. Can anybody make a living out of creative writing in Jamaica? I don't know but if anybody in Jamaica is making a living out of creative writing then they ought to be saluted.
