Chapter One
Chapterization
Errol Douse is released from prison. He makes his way to the streets of Kingston again. He meets one fighters, Tad. Tad is in pursuit of Bus-up, a former collector for Shadow, who gambled and
lost thousands of dollars for the former Don. They went to have a late breakfast. Just as they finish eating Tad receives a call from
Sam, another of Shadow’s fighters. He says that he was following Bus-up, Downtown, but he gave him the slip.
Douse and Tad go to look for Sam, who explains what has happened. Douse returns Downtown and tours the city. He notices how dilapidated the place has become. He buys a beer at a bar on Harbor Street before boarding a taxi for home.
He thwarts an attempted robbery of the taxi in which he was traveling. He reaches home to find his brother-in-law about to leave and go pick up his wife, Cherry. Douse told him that he will finish looking after the dinner. They have a short talk about violence in the area. Barry leaves to pick up Cherry. Dose finishes cooking the dinner and goes to take a nap. About midnight he is woken up by gunshots. Barry is shot by invading gunmen! Douse rushes him to the hospital but it is too late as he is pronounced dead on arrival.
