Champs 2019

My congratulations to both Kingston College and Edwin Allen High School for winning champs. Some experts had predicted a much closer race between KC and Calabar. Those same experts had predicted a far more comfortable win for Edwin Allen. This is a tough championship and Hydel should be congratulated for nearly pulling off an upset and defeating Edwin Allen. I say it is a tough championship because several former championship schools are finishing way down the track. Maybe the experts can tell us why these schools are not doing as well as in former years. Why is it that schools that dominate Eastern Champs are not showing up much higher on the CHAMPS radar?

BUBBLE'S BABY-An Excerpt

Bubbles’ Baby by Austin Mitchell As I drove into Creighton on my way to Latore’s Ridge a young lady waved me down. When I stopped the car and she came up to it, I recognized her as ‘Bubbles’ Kenton, one of my former students. “Teacher, can I beg you a ride to Rennals?” “Sure, Bubbles, get in.” I opened the car door for her and she got in. She had a young baby with her, but I noticed that she didn’t have a bag, although the baby was wrapped in a towel. “Your first baby, Bubbles?” I asked as I drove off the car. “He’s Leta’s baby, teacher. I don’t have any children yet. She’s gone for an interview in Kingston so she begged me to keep him for her.” I used to teach both Bubbles and Leta at Mc Cauley High School in Oakley district. Jamaica Creative Writer's Conference

How about a creative writers conference? This would bring together some of Jamaica's best creative writers to share ideas. I'm putting it out there because as far as I know there is not a lot going for creative writers. Can anybody make a living out of creative writing in Jamaica?
