West Indies Cricket

The recent tour of the West Indies team to Australia(2015/16) underline a lot of things that is wrong with West Indies cricket. That the team under-performed is an understatement. Australia scored 1,489 runs in four innings. They lost 12 wickets at 124 runs per wicket. Those runs were scored off 320 runs at 4.7 runs per over at 26.7 overs per wicket. The West Indies scored 1,254 runs over five innings losing 48 wickets. They lost a wicket ever 26 runs scored and they scored at 3.1 runs and lost a wicket every 8.5 overs. So the Australian batsmen and bowlers were far ahead of the West Indies. One wonders if the West Indies had a plan, did they know how to bowl to the Australian batsman? Did they have somebody analyse the Australian batsmen's weaknesses against pace and spin. No batsman is perfect but I think the Australians only lost three wickets each time they batted. The West Indies bowling was simply not penetrative enough. So where do we go from here? I've heard talk that we're under-performing because our major stars are playing in the cash rich 20/20 leagues. Personally I don't agree, all the named players except the iconic Chris Gayle are 20/'20 players. Frankly I don't think that enough planning was done for the tour.Jason Holder should not have captained the team. I think Ramdin should still be the captain. If you have a team that is struggling why appoint a bowler captain, unless he is going to spearhead the bowling attack. By spearheading the attack I mean taking 5 or more wickets an innings.Holder is tall ans at his height one would expect him to do more with the ball. If he is struggling with the ball then the other bowlers are going to struggle too. Also we saw where the most senior batsman on the team failed to aggregate 40 runs in six matches in Siri Lanka and did not achieve that feat inn the five innings he played in Australia. Our local domestic competitions don't offer much hope as the batsmen are not performing. We can't look at the past because that's already gone and it's no use dwelling on it.We probably have to wait and see what our domestic leagues throws up since we've gone professional. We need to follow the example of other cricket playing nations and make our season as long as theirs. We have seen what professional coaching has done for our athletes and we must adopt that strategy to improve our cricket. Make no mistake when other cricket teams beat us out of sight and then start making negative comments, we are all embarrassed.
