I wrote a play several years ago about a man who returned to Jamaica with his lottery winnings. He blew that money in under five years. I recently read in the newspapers about a man who came into what most persons would call a fortune and like the man I wrote about has almost blown it. I won't go into how this man said his money went. What I will simply say that is that I know that a lot of persons are calling him foolish and vowing that could never happen to them. It can happen to anyone coming into an unexpected fortune or fame. How often we've heard about famous sportsmen and their demise even after earning fame and fortune. I am no money management expert. My advice to persons coming into any large amount of money is to seek an advisor. All the banks and investment houses have such persons ready to sit down with the individual and discuss their options.

BUBBLE'S BABY-An Excerpt

Bubbles’ Baby by Austin Mitchell As I drove into Creighton on my way to Latore’s Ridge a young lady waved me down. When I stopped the car and she came up to it, I recognized her as ‘Bubbles’ Kenton, one of my former students. “Teacher, can I beg you a ride to Rennals?” “Sure, Bubbles, get in.” I opened the car door for her and she got in. She had a young baby with her, but I noticed that she didn’t have a bag, although the baby was wrapped in a towel. “Your first baby, Bubbles?” I asked as I drove off the car. “He’s Leta’s baby, teacher. Jamaica Creative Writer's Conference

How about a creative writers conference? This would bring together some of Jamaica's best creative writers to share ideas. I'm putting it out there because as far as I know there is not a lot going for creative writers. Can anybody make a living out of creative writing in Jamaica?
