Jamaican Road Fatalities

The amount of fatalities on our roads seemed to be getting out of hand. Only today a bus carrying school children and adults crashed into another vehicle. The crash resulted in five persons being killed and several injured including  some of the school children. The police have theorized that the driver of the bus was speeding. The driver ran away from the scene of the crime. Over the years there have been too many accidents on our roads involving school children. A law should be introduced where it is mandated that any vehicle containing school children may only travel at a certain speed. Some of these drivers are known as 'Shotta Drivers'. These drivers drive at these speeds because they want to make as many trips as possible. I think every parish should have a school bus system.

BUBBLE'S BABY-An Excerpt

Bubbles’ Baby by Austin Mitchell As I drove into Creighton on my way to Latore’s Ridge a young lady waved me down. When I stopped the car and she came up to it, I recognized her as ‘Bubbles’ Kenton, one of my former students. “Teacher, can I beg you a ride to Rennals?” “Sure, Bubbles, get in.” I opened the car door for her and she got in. She had a young baby with her, but I noticed that she didn’t have a bag, although the baby was wrapped in a towel. “Your first baby, Bubbles?” I asked as I drove off the car. “He’s Leta’s baby, teacher. Jamaica Creative Writer's Conference

How about a creative writers conference? This would bring together some of Jamaica's best creative writers to share ideas. I'm putting it out there because as far as I know there is not a lot going for creative writers. Can anybody make a living out of creative writing in Jamaica?
