Unemployment Insurance

I really think that there should be unemployment insurance. I am begging the new government to look into it. Employed persons would have to contribute a set percentage of their wages each month just like what is done with the other statutory deductions. It would have to be government controlled. Probably the fund would not start any payouts until five years after implementation. I don't know it it would be compulsory. Persons would have to be contributors to be beneficiaries.They must contribute for a number of years before they can benefit. An unemployed contributor to the scheme can only get a payout for between six to nine months.

BUBBLE'S BABY-An Excerpt

Bubbles’ Baby by Austin Mitchell As I drove into Creighton on my way to Latore’s Ridge a young lady waved me down. When I stopped the car and she came up to it, I recognized her as ‘Bubbles’ Kenton, one of my former students. “Teacher, can I beg you a ride to Rennals?” “Sure, Bubbles, get in.” I opened the car door for her and she got in. She had a young baby with her, but I noticed that she didn’t have a bag, although the baby was wrapped in a towel. “Your first baby, Bubbles?” I asked as I drove off the car. “He’s Leta’s baby, teacher. Jamaica Creative Writer's Conference

How about a creative writers conference? This would bring together some of Jamaica's best creative writers to share ideas. I'm putting it out there because as far as I know there is not a lot going for creative writers. Can anybody make a living out of creative writing in Jamaica?
