Tribute to Tony Cozier

As many of you might have guessed I am an ardent sports fan. I probably love cricket more than football. Most of us could only listen to cricket by the use of a transistor radio in the old days. On  of the series that I will never forget is the West Indies tour of Australia in 1975/76. The West Indies had just won the limited overs World Cup beating Australia in the final. It was therefore expected that this was going to be a fight for the World Championship  of Test Cricket. Although we lost 5-1, Cozier's commentary was so good that it didn't feel like a loss. He had a brilliant voice, spoke perfect English and knew the game very well. He could hold his own against the best from Australia, England, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Siri Lanka, New Zealand and Bangladesh. BUBBLE'S BABY-An Excerpt

Bubbles’ Baby by Austin Mitchell As I drove into Creighton on my way to Latore’s Ridge a young lady waved me down. When I stopped the car and she came up to it, I recognized her as ‘Bubbles’ Kenton, one of my former students. “Teacher, can I beg you a ride to Rennals?” “Sure, Bubbles, get in.” I opened the car door for her and she got in. She had a young baby with her, but I noticed that she didn’t have a bag, although the baby was wrapped in a towel. “Your first baby, Bubbles?” I asked as I drove off the car. “He’s Leta’s baby, teacher. Jamaica Creative Writer's Conference

How about a creative writers conference? This would bring together some of Jamaica's best creative writers to share ideas. I'm putting it out there because as far as I know there is not a lot going for creative writers. Can anybody make a living out of creative writing in Jamaica?
