Tourism

Living outside the tourist centers like Negril, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios or Portland one is hardly impacted by tourism. You hardly ever see tourists in Kingston or in Spanish Town or Portmore. My understanding is that the former Hotel Oceania is to be restored and this is good. I know that the hotels in Kingston are profitable. They are  people coming to Jamaica on business and they use these hotels. I must say that tourism helps our country since it provides a tremendous amount of employment opportunities for our people. It also provides an outlet for our farmers, fishermen, craft vendors and entertainment providers. But there are drawbacks, for example we import a lot of things for the industry and some of the top jobs in the hotels are occupied by foreigners.
