Venezuela

There is  great fear that there will be a complete meltdown in Venezuela. The government has declared a State of Emergency. The opposition is mounting demonstrations and the supporters of the government counter demonstrations. People have to line up to buy everything they want. The fall in oil prices has really affected their economy which was  so dependent on oil. There is a shortage on most consumer goods and medicines. This has shown that there was too much dependence on oil and the government has failed to diversify the economy. There is fear of Venezuelans leaving their country in droves as conditions become more dire. Many nearby countries have benefited from that countries oil windfall, so wiil they be willing to take in fleeing Venezuelan refugees. Only time will tell.
