Jamaica's Relationship with our Neighbors
Jamaica's Relationship with our Neighbors
There seems
to be a problem with Jamaican’s travelling to the other islands. Many persons
have said that they don’t like Jamaicans. In recent years we have had problems
in Bahamas, Barbados and now Trinidad and Tobago. There is the celebrated case
where a Jamaican woman took the Barbadian government to court and won a case
involving her and a cavity search of her body. It is no secret that Jamaicans
have gotten into trouble in many of these islands. Because of the bad
management of the Jamaican economy over the years, Jamaicans have had to seek
work in other countries. Jamaica was once responsible for the Cayman Islands
but look at the Cayman dollar to the Jamaican dollar. I think a lot of the
resentment from the people in other countries were brought on by the management
of our economy. A lot of Jamaican
businesses were sold to Trinidad and Barbados in the wake of the FINSAC
debacle. What we should do is to fix our economy so that our people will not
have to go seeking work in these islands.
